Ramblings, photographs and other stuff about Alice Springs and its surrounds in no particular order.
There are some stunning places to visit around Alice, especially after rain (not too much or roads are closed.)
Rainbow Valley Just before sunset is really great, we went there on numerous occasions after rain to see if the clay pans in fore ground were full but no luck. Has to be raining in a particular spot to fill them apparently and is very rare. Still a beautiful place to go.
Palm Valley is stunning, with palm trees and ancient Cycads apparently remains of a rain forest from long ago. About 100+ kms from Alice down a 4WD track, a definite place to go and stay.
Todd River – in 7 years it flowed once properly – an amazing site and worth seeing, sometimes there is some storm water run off, but that never lasts long. The saying in Alice is that if you see the Todd River in full flow 3 times, then you are a local.
There are numerous water holes around Alice some are permanent, best to ask around if they have water before heading to them.
One year after a good soak there was on impromptu boat race at Ilparapa Swamps , Great fun and so Alice.
Uluru, Olga’s & Kings Canyon
Kings Canyon is my favourite place around Alice. The Rim walk is stunning as is the whole area. Not to be missed, although so many do. The Valley of the Winds walk in the Olga’s is very scenic and one of my personal favourites.
Flora and Fauna.
This varies with the amount of rain more rain less birds but more flowers and vice a versa. One trip to Uluru which should only take about 4 hours took us ten hours as it was after rain and so many flowers and birds to be seen.
See the photographs in the gallery of local Flora and Fauna.
