Information
Western Australia covers the entire Western third of the country. It is mostly made up of arid outback. The majority of the population are situated in the more fertile south west corner. The south west has stunning beaches, great wineries and the capital Perth. The more northerly areas are home to Ancient Aboriginal Rock Art and amazing rock formations, along with the famous Cable Beach and its pearling industry history.

TRANSPORT:
Self Driving is the best way to get around. Public transport is limited to buses in towns and the Greyhound long distance bus service.
Flying between major states is the only way to go if short on time, but you will miss the best of the country.
Distances are huge and remote so prepare well. If self driving make sure you have plenty of water and emergency food.

Perth is warm most of the year with cooling sea breezes in summer (Dec – Feb). Winter (June to August) is wet.Western Australia has many types of climate, in the south-west, the climate is temperate, with winter rainfall (June-August) and four distinct seasons, to the north the climate is tropical with a wet season and a dry season (April to November) while in the rest of the land is arid or semi-arid. Northern WA is hot all year round.
Packing:
Lightweight casual is recommended. Rain jacket and umbrella for those wet days, and plenty of beachwear for the rest. A light weight cardigan for the cooler evenings will come in handy.
