Over 15 million people reside in Cambodia with the average age being 25. 97% of the people follow Buddhism. The country was decimated during the reign of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge between 1975 and 1979.

Safety: Generally a very safe place to travel, although be careful at night in Phnom Penn and on any public transport as pick pocketer’s are pretty clever.
Flights between major destinations are possible but not cheap.
Tuk Tuk for local journeys is the most popular and cheapest option.
There are limited rail lines and the trains are very slow so although scenic this is not always the best option.
Buses are cheap and plentiful, the local buses can leave a little to be desired but the better National Bus is good for the long haul.
Weather is tropical with 2 seasons, May to October being the wet season and November to April the dry. The coolest month is January with an average temperature of 28C and the hottest month is April averaging 35C.
Packing:
A layer system is best and loose long clothing to cover from the sun and the mosquitoes. Lightweight quick dry clothes are advisable especially in the wet season when it can be hard to get clothing dry.
